Reporter uses Twitter during child’s funeral
Technology has allowed reporters to break news literally as it happens, but just because the technology exists doesn’t mean you should always use it. One example of when not to use technology would be the actions of a Colorado newspaper reporter attending the funeral of a three-year old who was killed in a car accident. The reporter thought it would be a good idea to report the events of the funeral as they happen over Twitter according to a report by TechCrunch.
Twitter is a service which allows people to literally blog from their mobile phones as events happen. Needless to say, the reporter has caught a slew of criticism for his actions. Typically, most news organizations would report on the events of a funeral after it has concluded. It seems this reporter in Colorado decided that wasn’t fast enough.
Personally, I think the public should demand this reporter be fired in addition to anyone who authorized him to use Twitter to report on the funeral. Exactly how sick do you have to be to think those actions would have been okay? People want the latest news. I agree with news agencies on that point. I don’t think they want it this fast especially when it comes to a three-year old’s funeral.
