Sprint and Motorola launch a Renegade phone
Sprint and Motorola announced the newest addition to their line-up of phones called the Motorola Renegade V950. The Renegade sounds like it has been made to take some serious abuse. That’s because the clamshell phone has been built to military specifications and is capable of withstanding dust, shock, vibration and even blowing rain.
The phone utilizes the Nextel network for Direct Connect and the Sprint network for mobile broadband. It supports a number of Sprint services including the Sprint Music Store, Sprint Radio, Sprint TV, Picture Mail, Sprint Navigation, Mobile Email, Mobile Sync and instant messaging. The Renegade even comes equipped with a 2 megapixel camera and camcorder with 4X digital zoom. The Renegade will retail for US$129.99 with a two-year service agreement and a US$50 mail-in rebate.
It seems Sprint is not backing away from selling rugged phones which still utilize the Nextel network. There has been talk that Sprint is considering selling its Nextel network. If that’s true then it makes you wonder why the company would continue to offer phones which utilize the service.
