Worldwide solar cell production topped 5500 Megawatts-peak in 2008
In 2008, the crystalline silicon-based solar cell production surpassed 5.5 Gigawatts-peak, 900 Megawatts-peak of which came from Taiwan, accounting for 16.4% of worldwide production. This according to the Photvoltaics Technology Center (PTC) under the government-sponsored Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).
